Fact 1: Currywurst is not only available on a plate or in a bowl ... it may also smile at you when you receive a letter, as the currywurst was honored by the German postal service with its own stamp in 2019. And since 2024, there has also been a matching envelope to mark the 75th anniversary. So from now on, please only send us letters using this. 😉

Not from this world

Fact 2: Completely detached from Earth ... German astronauts understandably could not do without their favorite Berlin dish. Since then, the currywurst has been one of the few dishes that can claim to have spread joy and taste in space as well as on earth. This paved the way for the Original Berlin Currywurst to become the first intergalactic or at least interplanetary street food.

A real hit

Fact 3: Herbert Grönemeyer dedicated a song to the cult dish in 1982. Since then, the love for currywurst has not only gone through the stomach, but also directly into the ear. Written by comedian and actor Dieter Krebs, the song is still a catchy tune and an anthem for this cult food.

Fact 5: As you may have already read on our homepage, around 70,000,000 currywursts are eaten in Berlin every year. That sounds like a lot at first, but when we realize that Berlin has around 4 million inhabitants, it means that each of us eats an average of just 17 currywursts a year. If you then add the numerous tourists into the equation, the per capita consumption becomes even more relative. We think there's still room for improvement.
